A Tithe

Joshua 28:29 is a powerful verse from the Bible that speaks to the importance of being faithful, obeying God’s commands, and to the importance of tithing. This verse reads:

“Then Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.'”

In this verse, God tells Joshua that if he follows His commands and stays true to His word, He will be with him wherever he goes.

The lesson from this verse is clear – if we put our faith in God and obediently follow His commands, we will have His constant presence and guidance in our lives. This is especially important when we face difficulties and challenges along the way.

But the reality is that it can be hard to stay faithful and obedient to God’s commands when life throws us curveballs. It requires a tremendous amount of trust and a willingness to surrender our own desires and plans to God’s will.

The good news is that no matter how difficult the path may be, we can always turn to God for help and guidance. When we trust in Him and obey His commands, we can have confidence that He will lead us to success and blessings beyond our wildest imaginations.

The act of tithing, or giving 10% of one’s income or possessions, is a way for believers to express their gratitude and faith in God’s provision. It is a way of acknowledging that everything we have is a gift from God and that we have a responsibility to use our resources wisely.

While tithing may seem like a burden to some, it is actually a way to experience the joy of giving and to participate in God’s work in the world. When we give generously, we join with God in providing for the needs of others and in spreading the message of his love and grace.

So, as we consider the example of Jacob and his vow to tithe, let us be inspired to give generously and joyfully, trusting in God’s provision and his work in our lives. Let’s also strive to follow God’s commands daily and trust Him to lead us to where we need to be. In doing so, we will experience the joy and peace that only comes from a life lived in obedience to God.
