Read the below verse and think about being rich.
“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”-1 Timothy 6:17-19
As you read that verse, what did you think? In the US, many people make over $48,000 a year. Did you know that you’re in the top 1% of the wage earners in the world if you make over $48,000 a year? Yet, many of those who make this amount feel poor. We forget that when we do this we are shifting our trust from God and putting it on material wealth. God wants us to put our trust in Him. To rely on Him. This does not mean that we need to give up working. It just means that our focus needs a realignment.
We work, but we do not rely solely on our paycheck or our employer. We rely on God. We spend time with Him. We read His Word. We learn to be content with the provisions He gives. We learn to manage our finances His way because in the end, it is not ours but His. Whatever we call ours, will become someone else’s the day we die. He only entrusts it to us for that short period of time we are on this earth. When we store up for ourselves treasures in heaven, we are rich.
