In Matthew 6:1-4, Jesus emphasizes on the importance of giving selflessly. He instructs us to not display our acts of righteousness to gain recognition from others, but rather to give in secret. Essentially, Jesus is teaching us that while giving is important, our motives behind it are equally important.
As we go about our daily lives, it’s essential to evaluate our intentions when giving. Are we giving to seek approval from others, or are we doing it to help those in need? It’s okay to feel good about doing good, but let us not lose sight of our primary goal- to make a difference in someone’s life.
Moreover, giving doesn’t have to be grand gesture. We can make a difference through small actions such as volunteering our time or offering a listening ear to someone in need. It’s the thought behind our actions that counts- our intention to help others without expecting anything in return.
Therefore, as Christians, let us remember that giving is not just about our actions but primarily about our motives. Let us give selflessly, not for recognition or accolades, but to make a difference, one small act of kindness at a time.
Matthew 6: 1-4 –
1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly”
