Fasting

“God Is Faithful” Today – November 19th

“Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting.” — Matthew 6:16 (NASB)

Fasting
by Larry Burkett

It is my personal conviction that any long-term relationship with the Lord is going to be accompanied by fasting and prayer.

The significance of fasting is two-fold: spiritual and physical.

Physically, there are great benefits from fasting. It’s a cleansing process for the body itself, because the body has the chance to rid itself of the toxins that are taken in on a daily basis through food.

Spiritually, fasting is the denial of something we need and literally surrendering that to God as a testimony that we love and trust Him. If our Lord considered fasting an essential part of His spiritual life, we certainly should.

I believe that fasting is a necessary element of any spiritual relationship with God and also a valuable part of good health.

“Having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed” (Acts 14:23 NASB).
