One Man and One Woman

“That’s why a man will leave his own father and mother. He marries a woman, and the two of them become like one person.” – Genesis 2:24 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The above verse speaks of one man and one woman, two separate individuals, becoming one person. As I read today’s financial stewardship verse, I really was at a loss as to how this was considered one of the financial stewardship verses.

However, in reflecting upon the verse, it signifies that when two people get married and become one flesh, they are starting their family. They are to rely on one another and no longer depend upon their parents. Their support is to come from each other. They are to rely on each other financially, as well.

Together, they develop their own financial life and principles. These financial principles are comprised from what they each learned from their respective parents and from their own financial mistakes and experiences. They are to blend them together and seek each other’s opinions in their daily lives, including financially.

There is more fighting and arguing about money in marriages than anything else. Instead of fighting, we need to become of one mind financially and work together to achieve financial freedom.
