Whom To Help?

“God Is Faithful” Today – November 29th

“I was a father to the needy, and I investigated the case which I did not know.” – Job 29:16 (NASB)

Whom To Help?
by Larry Burkett

When you have a surplus, how do you decide whom to help? Judy and I have faced that question, and we have a kind of pecking order that we go through.

First of all, we support our local church. The Bible says that we should support those who teach the Word.

Second, we support the organizations from which we benefit—the ones that minister to us. Our ministry is Christian Financial Concepts, which Judy and I started in 1976. I don’t get an income from the ministry, but I do support it, because we benefit from it.

Then we support things like our Christian radio stations and other ministries that bless us.

Next, we try to meet the special needs of individuals. The first requirement is that we must know them personally, unless it’s missionaries whose needs have been presented to us (of course we wouldn’t know them).

If we hear of an individual in need and don’t know him or her, we give through a trustworthy organization.

Even if you give to someone and find out later that the money was misspent, you will still be blessed for your heart attitude.

Giving to others should be made a matter of prayer and good stewardship.

“The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy” (James 3:17 NASB).
