Is amassing wealth wrong? Amassing wealth is not wrong, if you have the right motives for accumulating wealth. God wants us to be good stewards of the resources He has loaned to us while we are in this world. We are to take care of own household first.
1 Timothy 5:8 – But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
We are also to leave a legacy for our grandchildren.
Proverbs 13:22 – A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.
Clearly, you can see that God does not want you to not have wealth because otherwise, you would not be able to provide for your family and for future generations. However, God does not want you to be a hoarder with the extra wealth.
Luke 12:13-21
[13] Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
[14] Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” [15] Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
[16] And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. [17] He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
[18] “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. [19] And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”
[20] “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
[21] “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.”
The extra wealth should used to care for others.
Philippians 2:4 – Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Matthew 25:40 – And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’Proverbs 28:27 – Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.Galatians 6:9-10 – And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
