When to have a credit card

During this summer’s financial class, I was asked if it was ever good to have a credit card. I explained the following as to when to have a credit card:

  1. First, you must ensure that you don’t have credit card debt.
  2. Second, you must know how to handle a credit card.
  3. Third, handling a credit card means: Charge only what you can pay when the bill comes. Payoff the entire balance of the credit card when the bill is due.

If you cannot do these few things, then you should not have a credit card because if you do, you are liable to get into deeper debt.
